BORN Privacy Policy
We at BORN respect your right to privacy and comply with our obligations under the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2002 and the introduction of GDPR from May 25th, 2018.
The purpose of this BORN Privacy Policy is to outline how we deal with any personal data you provide to us while visiting this website, entering our competitions and giveaways, or subscribing to our mailing lists. Naturally, if you are not happy with this Privacy Policy, you should not use this website. By visiting this website, you are accepting the terms of the BORN Privacy Policy. Any external links to other websites are clearly identifiable as such, and we are not responsible for the content or privacy policies of these other websites. If ever in doubt, please do not click — or ask us directly before you do. We only link to sites that we trust to be as safe and privacy-conscious as we are.
How We Collect Your Information
We collect email addresses and contact details via in-store and online competitions and surveys (as part of our terms and conditions), and when customers sign up to our mailing list via our website. We only collect address details submitted to us through our online ordering system to fulfil purchases made online or by phone. We do not use details sourced from any other channels.
Types of Information Collected
We retain two types of information:
1. Personal Data
This includes information that identifies you or can be used to identify or contact you: name, address, email address, user IP addresses (where not deleted, clipped, or anonymised), telephone number, and billing information. We never have access to or store your payment card details. Such information is collected only if you voluntarily submit it. If you check out as a “guest,” we record only what is necessary to fulfil your order. If you create an account, your information will be stored securely until you choose to delete it.
2. Non-Personal Data
Like most websites, we gather statistical and analytical information about visitors on an aggregate basis. This includes demographic details such as anonymised IP addresses, browser types, and user behaviour patterns. This data cannot be used to identify you.
Purposes for Which We Hold Your Information
Non-Personal Data
We use this data (e.g., via cookies) to better understand where our visitors come from and how to design and structure our website for a better experience.
Cookies
This website uses cookies — small text files stored by your browser at the request of our server. They help personalise your experience and store your preferences.
Cookies are required on this site to allow access to certain features. No personal information is recorded, and cookies are deleted when you log out or close your browser. You can decline or delete cookies via your browser settings, though it may affect site functionality.
Personal Data
We process your personal data to:
Provide the goods or services you’ve ordered
Contact you in relation to your order or enquiries
Send you newsletters, event alerts, or BORN updates
All our emails include an unsubscribe link. You can also request to be removed from our mailing list anytime by emailing info@born.ie.
We do not retain or have access to payment information. Payments are processed securely via trusted third parties like PayPal or RealControl using SSL encryption. We retain order records for 12 months for compliance, after which they are securely deleted.
Disclosure of Information to Third Parties
We may provide non-personal data to third parties (e.g., Google, Facebook, Bing) in the form of cookies. This may include general visitor statistics or user behaviour. Personal data is not shared unless:
You consent (e.g., via competition opt-in)
A third party (e.g., a courier) is required to fulfil your order
It’s legally required (e.g., a court order or summons)
All third parties handling your data are bound by similar data protection requirements.
Sale of Business
In the event of a sale, merger, or transfer of BORN’s assets, your personal data may be transferred to the third party, provided they comply with this privacy policy and use your data only for its original purpose. You will be notified and given a chance to opt-out if such a transfer occurs.
Security
Your data is stored on secure servers hosted by AWS. While no data transmission over the internet is 100% secure, we take all reasonable measures — technical and organisational — to protect your personal data.
Updating, Verifying & Deleting Personal Data
You may inform us of any updates to your personal data at any time. In accordance with GDPR and earlier data protection legislation, we will update or delete your information as requested. To review, correct, or delete your data, contact us at info@born.ie. We aim to respond promptly to all data subject requests.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
Any updates to this policy will be posted on the BORN website. If we change the way we use your data in a significant way, we will notify you and give you the opportunity to opt out of the new use.
